It’s not enough just to know that you are about to do something, you need to create a clear signal to the rest of the team. Here’s David, in Italy, with more.
I want to talk about signals for a minute. Sometimes it’s not enough just to know that you are about to do something, you need to create a clear enough signal to the rest of the team so that they understand that you need to do something-that you’re about to do something. Often with Intent-Based Leadership, this is through language. But here I am, I’m in Milan. There’s across walk. So the rule is the cars need to stop if I go in the crosswalk, but I’m not 100% sure when a guy is barreling at me that he’s gonna stop and I’m not gonna risk my life. So I started crossing. I was looking at this driver coming at me and I looked at him and then he gets exasperated and waves like I’m holding him up. But I didn’t walk quickly across the crosswalk because I wasn’t sure he was gonna stop. Anyway, we had a miscommunication. I’m sure it was my fault .So it’s not enough to know that you’re doing something. We need to let the team and the people around us also know. I’m David Marquet. That’s your Leadership Nudge, coming from the wonderful city of Milano.
