Leadership Nudge® 102 – Transparency Day

Leadership Nudge 102 – Transparency Day

Todays Leadership NudgeTM is Transparency Day. The rule in Intent-Based Leadership®TMorganizations, when it comes to hierarchy, is that authority needs to follow the chain of command. But information should flow freely throughout the organization. Too many times I see organizations where we apply the rules of authority to information. This results in “gate keepers” on information. This is not good.

Here is how Transparency day works. Pick a small team. Don’t make it too big, because you’ll be sharing a lot of information. You don’t want to make it unmanageable.   In the small team, set up an email rule so that every email that you send on that day goes to everybody on the team.

On Transparency Day, everybody on the team is getting everybody’s emails. The idea is that if you know everyone on your team is going to see what you write, that may change the way you write. Just knowing that I see every email that everybody on the team sent creates a sense of trust and transparency throughout the organization.

My leadership nudge to you this week is this:
